LIVING IN A HOUSE OR HOME?
I was invited to a radio show as a guest and the topic of
discussion was “what’s the difference between a house and a home” and this
suddenly made me travel down memory lane to savor the beautiful moments with
family in our beautiful home. Am sure you too are thinking
about your home as
you read this, that’s nice think on but, before you are swallowed in the ocean
of memories let me ask for a little time to talk about the difference between A
HOUSE AND A HOME.
A HOUSE can be said to be a building that serves as a shelter
to a group of people may be family, colleagues or any other group. It’s also a
place where you can come and also rest. However, AHOME is a house with lots of
emotional attachment, it is accommodating with high serenity, a place where you
have a sense of belonging, where you can rest and hide from all the noise and
disturbance from the entire world. A lady
once said “ a home is where I can take off my bra and make up and jump up and
down freely “. Well funny as it may
sound I share that opinion with the lady.
Now you can tell the obvious difference between a home and a house but
it doesn’t just end in the difference but also in how we can help some of us
turn our houses to our dream homes. There are reasons why no matter how
expensively furnished a hotel room is, it is never considered a home and no
matter how some people want to turn a house to home it still becomes a

There are several things that make a house a home they
include the people living in the house, their relationships, how clean and organized
a home is, the type of food served, the liberty , the interior decorations and
memories created in that home.
It’s important that members of the family establish special
relationship among them, something that will bind them together and has a way
of separating them from others; more family codes, games, understand and
predict characters of each other. When someone isn’t happy to visit home maybe
the family relationship is ZERO. To you dear reader if this is the case in your
home, please work on making that house a comfortable home turn it from zero to
heroic abode.
Also the type of food
one enjoys at home isn’t the same with that of mama put; I am not saying it must be the mothers or
sisters that get to cook in the house but whoever it is that cooks, a healthy,
delicious meal is what is expected to come out from the kitchen in a home. If you
as a husband or wife, son, daughter can’t feed well in a supposed called home
then there’s every chance you won’t feel that comfort.
The trustworthy book called BIBLE says that cleanliness is
next to Godliness, a good accommodating home should always be well arranged and
clean. I don’t know any sane person in this world who doesn’t love a clean
place. The only animal that deserves a dirty environment is a pig and if we are
humans and not pigs our homes deserve to be clean.
The interior decoration of a home also contributes to how
relaxing one can feel when one steps into a particular home. You enter some
homes and what comes out from your mouth is WOOOOOW! What a lovely place and
for some people when you enter their home the first thing you say is CHEIIII,
TUFIAKWA! (God forbid). That’s because the home might be dirty, untidy and the
interior decoration is all scattered.
NOTE:
every room in a home has its suitable colours, arrangements and
decorations; in every room there are colours that suit each room and to be on a
safe side please maintain one colour or not more than two colours in a room and
make sure every detail of decoration falls in that one or two colours that you
chose for the room.
Dear friend it’s really important that we have homes and not
houses, after sometime refresh our home with any new thing that makes it
different and yet more interesting because after all the hustle home is where
your heart is and deserves to be accommodating embraced with serenity and
cleanliness. Am sure we all are always proud and happy to say this one sentence
“HOME SWEET HOME”
